Under this heading I will discuss graceful ageing and care of self specifically with respect to the senior life of professionals and intellectuals.
I will focus mainly on the notion of professional ‘career’ and how the appreciation of ‘making a career’ changes over the life course.
My point of departure for the argument is a blog post I wrote in 2011 on neurophysiologist and Nobel Prize winner Ragnar Granit’s musings about the difference between younger and older scientists, and about “keeping track of one’s identity”. It was later expanded and presented in the conference “Forskning og livsløb: har kreativiteten en udløbsdato?”, 8 October 2013 (in Danish only).
I will expand the argument with reference to selected parts of the large literature on professionals and intellectuals.
